The Best Game Engine
The battle between game engines is fascinating, with hundreds of engines vying for the top spot. So we decided to poll the data to find the best and most popular game engines amongst titles released on Steam.
Using data from IGDB and Steam our leaderboard below ranks game engines based on player sentiment, popularity, and sales. Using these metrics, you can get a sense of the best game engines available and how they compare to each other.
Only around 15% of games on Steam have their game engine listed on IGDB, so this leaderboard is not exhaustive.
The popularity of a game engine can be a good indicator of its capabilities and the community support available, which can be crucial for developers. However, game engine popularity does not necessarily correlate with the quality of games produced with them.
Additionally, some engines may be more suited to specific types of games or development styles than others. So if you're trying to decide on the best game engine for your next project, your decision should not be based solely on this leaderboard, as it does not account for your specific needs or the type of game you want to create.
